Heartbreaking ASD story from 5280

If you guys remember the guy with ASD who was lost for weeks in the desert b/c he didn't give up a planned hike after his gear was stolen -- he nearly died before he was found.

One of our local magazines wrote a story on him and his family.

He's always had a relationship with them, but his parents gave him up to be a ward of the state as a child because they couldn't afford his therapies. That part killed me.

And God, I can't imagine how terrified his family must be. It sounds like he's obsessed with desert wilderness, and like he very well might just take off again one day, never come back and would likely be content to die somewhere in the wilderness.
