Traumatic delivery, need advice

During labor with my second daughter 3 weeks ago I had a placental abruption at 7 cm, her heat rate plummeted and I was immediately rushed back for an emergency c section. It was a very scary and traumatic experience for me. I had an epidural that was only working sufficiently on my right side, and because I refused to be put to sleep I felt everything on my left side.
I'm having such a hard time accepting what happened and dealing with recovery. I know there's nothing I could have done, but I'm still so upset about it. And to make it worse I keep comparing my recovery to my friends who recently had their second, and my recovery with DD1 (vaginal birth with second degree tear), which was worlds easier.
I just feels so abnormal when I see other c section moms up walking and wearing their pre pregnancy jeans. I'm still in a LOT of pain, and I have so much abdominal swelling, I still look 6 months pregnant!
-How long did it take for your stomach to go back down?
-How long did the pain last?
-Did you get that nerve burning/pins and needles sensation on your stomach? The nerve pain is almost worse, just my pants touching my skin kills, how long does that last?
I'm just so nervous that this is all permanent and I'll never feel like myself again.
I really appreciate your help and advice. I don't know anyone who had a similar experience so it's a lonely island right now.

  • All of that sounds normal to me. I am a yr pp and mine still is achy and I still look 6 months preg. Not trying to scare you. Just being honest. Btw I lost all my preg weight a week after so I have no idea why I'm still so bloated. Good luck mama.

  • You're only 3 weeks out from a rough delivery, give yourself a break. Time is what you need, both for physical and emotional healing.

  • I have had two c-sections, one after a 48 hour failed induction and the second one was a true emergency due to fetal distress.  I was VERY upset over my first one.  I really felt like I missed out on the vaginal delivery.  I stewed on it

My section was planned. My stomach went down around six weeks it was much better. I wore a belly band too and am still breastfeeding. I started counting calories and working out more at six weeks too. I was in my

  • I am sorry you had such a difficult delivery.  My incision was very tender for a few weeks.  I could only wear granny panties, yoga pants, and dresses.  Walking around will really help with the pain and with getting your belly back in shape

  • Sweetie, if they didn't rush you back for the c/s your daughter could have died. I struggle with my inability to have a vaginal delivery because my 1st c/s was at 28w. I "justify" it with the knowledge that I wouldn't have had any days with Aidan becau

  • I'm so sorry this happened to you.  It sounds terrifying.  Don't compare yourself or your recovery to those around you - no two recoveries are the same.  Knowing this logically and feeling it emotionally are two different things but just

  • I totally understand about comparing yourself to others that have had csections. I had a rough recovery with DD after failed attempt at delivering vaginally for 36 hours including the nduction. My scar reopened around 3 weeks and even at 4 months after it
