Cloth Diapering

Use Prefold as Insert in a Hybrid Diaper?

Hi, I'm hoping to have a baby next year (fingers crossed) and started looking into diapering options. I want to go with cloth for both economic and ecological reasons. I opted to use a hybrid system that comes with a diaper cover and cloth inserts that just snap into them. I had a question about maybe using a prefold as an extra overnight insert, though. This company does make overnight absorbancy inserts, but they cost almost $7 per insert. I was wondering if anyone thinks it might be a problem to just throw the super-absorbant center of a prefold (which are a lot cheaper) over the normal snap-in insert for overnights? Or would it just shift around too much and cause leaks anyway since it wouldn't be snapped in?

My frugal self says it should be fine, but I wanted to check with more experienced people first. :-) Thank you!

  • A prefold as an insert or just for absobency boost is absolutely fine!

If you wanted you could just purchase a few covers and prefolds and use those instead of a hybrid system.

  • I feel like the hybrid systems work best for older babies on solids and for travel. If I were you, I would definitely use prefolds with snappis and covers in the early months rather than just snapping in the insert in the hybrids. The poop isnt solid so 7
