a little worried

My wife is not getting good sleep at night, however, i sleep like a log all the way through the night, nothing wakes me.  Am I going to wake up when the baby is crying or fussing at 4 in the morning when i got home form work at 2?  How can i be any help to my wife when im sleeping soundly?

Re: a little worried

  • We're in a different situation, as I don't work, but I too sleep like a petrified log. What we did the first few nights, was she would wake up enough to elbow me awake. This was a short term solution though as her elbow started to get sore. Still, might work fit you.
  • That is what you need to work out with your wife.  With us, my wife can handle functioning with less sleep so she takes the night shift.  If she needs a nap in the evening I take the kid so she can sleep more.  I also was doing the morning shift until our child got old enough to want everyone awake at the same time.

  • Lurking mom here ... Depending on what their schedule turns out to be, you arriving home at two might be a great time to be involved, the baby might be ready for a diaper change or need some middle of the night holding which you could do before you hit your deep sleep. Regardless, you both need to talk and revisit the conversation evey few weeks to check and make sure you're helping in a way that she needs you to help. With my DH, the first few weeks he felt like he couldn't do much, and would say so but he did most of the diaper changes when he was home, and took care of me so I could take care of the baby. He kept track of my meds schedule, made sure I ate, and would take LO whenever I would get frustrated to give me a time out, or give me nap time, and made sure things like laundry or the dishes are moving along in their process... he is still doing many of these things. In my opinion, he is better at calming our baby which I really appreciate and he looks for ways to give me breaks each day.

  • I'm 100% with you here man.  Same situation.  I can sleep through anything, including the house alarm going off (false alarm when I first moved in).  I've gotten better, but it still concerns me.
