Food Allergy

XP: Protein Allergy, not again! :(

DD1 had a milk protein allergy and it was miserable on all of us. I had never even heard of it before so it took 4 doctors, 4 total months and 3 different formulas to get it under control.

I knew that once you have a child that has a protein allergy, your other children are much more likely to have it so I really kept an eye out for the symptoms in DD2.

She's only a week old but by day 4 she was showing signs of it. Her dr more or less wanted to dismiss my concerns, he didn't actually test her stool for it but he did give me Similac Alimentum samples to try. It worked wonders! She pooped for the first time in 2 days and seemed to be doing extremely well with it.

Until today! :( She hadn't pooped since 3ish yesterday and her jaundice seemed to be going up again because her eyes look yellow. I did rectal stimulation and got her to poop some and it gave her a little relief.

I'm just so sad bc I know she's in so much pain and with her insurance we have to have a referral to see the specialist she needs. Her doctor did say they would speed up that process but tomorrow is Friday so I probably won't be seen until at least Monday, which gives us the whole weekend for her to be miserable! I don't feel comfortable trying to next step up in formula because I'm not sure what she needs and it's about $42 a can!

Not sure there's a point in this point except to vent and express my sadness of the situation. If anyone has any advice or has been through this too, feel free to share! TIA!

  • Unfortunately, we also have the same issue. DD #1 had the milk protein allergy and when DS started exhibiting some of the same characteristics I brought him to the allergist. She put him on Elecare and started the meds for the reflux. At least the 2nd tim
