Did anyone's DH/SO use FMLA for birth of child?

My DH is planning on using FMLA to take off a total of 4 weeks for the birth of DD.  He is going to take 2 weeks when she is first born and then take an additional 2 weeks off when I go back to work.  Does anyone have any experience in what DH will have to do paperwork-wise?  Has anyone had a positive/negative experience with DH/SO taking FMLA?

I think paperwork-wise, it will depend on his employer.  DH actually took off about 8 weeks with me; he was allowed to use 6 weeks of sick leave just like I was, and then after that we both had to use vacation...we work for the same Agency and we hav

  • H took 2 weeks fo PTO when B was born, then another 4 weeks under FMLA when I went back to work. He had to put in for the PTO like normal and then HR had a form he had to fill out for the FMLA portion.

  • he filed it online and according to him, it was very simple.  a lot easier and faster than trying to call in (which is always busy/over limit) and/or sending the paper work via mail.  so far, he have taken 3 weeks of it...

  • Mine took off a total of 8 weeks. Two weeks as vacation time when LO was born and 6 more weeks when LO was 2-3 months under FLMA when I returned to work. His work wasn't precisely pleased, some comment about "can't your wife stay at home?", but DH asserte
  • DH took 4 weeks off after I went back to work so that we could extend the time DS was home with us. He works for the federal government and went through his HR department and supervisor to get the FMLA leave squared away.

  • Geez, my DH only took a day or two off after G was born.  I'm jealous of all these DH's that took several weeks off to contribute and help out.

  • DH's boss gave him crap because he left early the day I was admitted to L&D and then she gave him crap for using a week of vacation time to be home with us when they discharged me and DD.

He's working for a much better company now so hopefu

  • Yes, DH took 2 weeks of FMLA when DS was born. It is the same as anyone else filing for it. He just had to let HR know ahead of time, my OB signed a paper for him,  and called them the day DS was born so the clock started.

  • My DH took 6 weeks paid family leave when we had DS. His HR told him what paperwork needed to be filled out and I think he also had to have my OB sign something and also provide a birth certificate, but I can't remember for sure. He took 2 weeks when we

  • Yes. He took 2 weeks off through FMLA. There is paperwork that he has to fill out. He can get it from HR. In addition, your doctor will have to fill out some paperwork for his FMLA as well.

We had a positive experience. His boss actually suggest

  • I am surprised that some of your DH's were allowed so much time off when you work at the same agency.
