Talk to me about Neocate

For moms useing Neocate:

Where do you buy it?

Do I need a prescription?

What was your reason for choosing that formula?

DD has been on Nutramigen for 6 weeks due to MSPI, and we're going backwards again.  She's had a rash on her face and body for about 4 weeks now, has a diaper rash (with open sores) that will clear up and then come right back, and now has diarrhea on top of it all.

My pedi has not been super helpful, saying that the rashes are "normal" for newborns and suggesting that we give it more time.  I understand that babies get rashes, diaper rash, are cranky, fussy, etc. but I feel like when you look at the entire picture it points to the milk allergy which makes me think that she needs a different formula.

We have her 2 month well visit on Tuesday and if we're not satisfied with that we plan to seek another opinion.

Just curious about the Neocate and if I can make the decision to switch the formula on my own, or if we need the support of the doctor.

Thanks!

  • I purchased her Neocate through their website. It was much cheaper that way than by going through a pharmacy.  If yu are going through a pharmacy, you would need a prescription.

DD2 was super fussy.  All the time.  Her little body

  • I have no advice on the formula, DD1 was on Pregestimil (the next step I think after Nutramigen) and it looks like DD2 is headed that way as well. But we see a G.I Specialist for their milk protein allergies. DD1 grew out of it by 10 months but DD2 is onl
  • I'm basically going to reiterate what PPs have said. My son is 12 weeks and has been on PurAmino, which is Enfamils version of Neocate or Elecare, for about 6 weeks now. After seeing no improvement on Nutramigen, his pedi decided to start him on the PurAm

  • DD had severe reflux and colic when I BFed despite me being on MSPI diet, then eliminating top 8 allergens, then total elimination.  She also had watery diarrhea and horrible diaper rash.  At 4 months, GI put her on Nutramigen.  That was
