Lack of info?

I see many of you posting about your doctors telling you an estimate of what your baby weighs and such. I just had my 32 week appt and they still haven't done any size stuff or anything. I feel like they don't want to give me an ultrasound. All I've had is my mid gestational one at 20 weeks.
Is it normal to not know this stuff? I've been measuring at least 1.5 weeks ahead since they started measuring me back at like 24 weeks.
I mean I'm not going to lie I'd love to have an ultra sound a just to see him again of course : and b for growth info and position.
Any thoughts?

Re: Lack of info?

  • Depends on your practice.  Some docs do growth u/s, others don't.  I won't get any more u/s unless I pass my due date.  I would love to see baby again, but there's really no medical need.

  • The only reason for an ultrasound at this point is if your doctor is concerned-- it is, after all, a medical procedure. I think a lot of ladies that get frequent ultrasounds wish they didn't have to get them.

  • US after 20w often equals high risk. Not exactly something to be jealous of. The size of your baby is irrelevant, unless you are at risk for your baby having growth issues. My son is at risk of IUGR due to the meds I am on. We have weekly USs and NSTs. I

  • Im high risk and so was/is my LO so thats why Ive been monitored so much. I dont think its uncommon to not have a ton of scans and if there is nothing to be concerned over I can see why you wouldnt give more than whats needed.

  • Thanks everyone! I think I'm just a worry wort! : I appreciate you all reminding me to just be thankful that I don't NEED an US.
Just wanted to make sure it was normal!
    Thanks again :
  • I would of only gotten one if I hadn't gotten complications which made me get more. My doctor said she doenst bother with the positioning until about 35 weeks. My baby was breech at a 30 week ultra sound and when I asked her he said she doesn't even look

  • Nope, totally normal. The average pregnancy doesn't require an ultrasound past the 20w one. This is my second normal pregnancy (for which I am extremely grateful) and I haven't had one beyond 20w either time.

  • The only reason I'm getting one at 34 weeks is to determine if the placenta has moved up. At my 20 week A/s the tech noticed I had a low lying placenta. Otherwise my dr wouldn't have one done. Excited to see how much she weighs in 3 weeks though!

The only reason I get a growth ultrasound every 4 weeks is because my fundal height is about 8 weeks behind my gestational week.  They have to measure her to make sure she's growing okay.  So, yes... be thankful that you don't have to get extra
