October 2012 Moms

When did you first really truly feel....

....like a mom?  I had my first moment last night.  When DH was getting Raylan ready for bed he accidentally let him get too close to the hot water bath for his bottle and got his hand in the water.   Needless to say he flipped.  I was in the shower and by the time I got out he was mostly calm, but he would just randomly cry when DH was feeding him, he was super scared.  I asked if I could take over... I took him in our room and sang to him, rocked him and snuggled him.  As he was falling asleep he started reaching around with his hand until I took it mine, he settled right down and went to sleep.  In that moment I never felt more like a mom... not even when I gave birth or nursed him for the first time.  I felt like I knew exactly what he needed and I only I knew how to do it.  KWIM?  Kinda awesome.

  • Dd1 got her first stomach bug 2months ago. She was so pitiful. She sat in my lap and threw up on me. Nothing screams motherhood like cleaning puke out of your hair

  • Those sick/hurt moments are always a reality check. When DS was a baby he was jaundiced and hospitalized as a result. That was huge in making me realize I was a mom. That mdd when I called as a follow up nd the nurse said "Wesley last name's mom is on the

  • I think it was when we had to take LO to the ER for her UTI. Anytime after the doctors did something to her and I took her into my arms, she calmed right down. Like the PP said, it's those moments that you need to be strong that bring it out.

  • I don't remember the first time this happened (obviously, it was with DS1), but anytime DS2 is fussing and crying and immediately stops the second I pick him up (or take him from whoever is holding him) it makes me think, 'he just wanted mom." Also, as DS
