Cloth Diapering

Stupid Question

Maybe I missed it in the FAQ's. If that's the case I do apologize. So yesterday I posted that I wanted to use prefolds with diaper covers for my newborn. Instead of prefolds can you use inserts instead??

Re: Stupid Question

  • Yes, but they won't stop the runny, explosive newborn poop. So while its easier to use inserts than prefolds, you'll need a fresh cover with every poopy change (which is a lot). If you have extra covers or don't mind rinsing them off, it's a viable option

  • Plus you can't use microfiber inserts against baby's skin, so you would have to be careful about what kind of inserts you bought.

You might want to look into the Flip system. Their inserts have a stay-dry layer on one side which is safe to use ag

  • If you become lazy and don't want to fold the prefold you can just trifold it essentially making an insert.

It wouldn't be stay dry if thats what you were going for. But you wouldn't have to buy something else.
