I had a dream that my sister have birth and she had a boy. They named him August William. I think the nn Gus is adorable but I really don't like month names. Funnily enough my grandfather's name was William. What do you think?
Q: is it weird to name your child after a grandparent or anyone but using a name they hated? My grandfather was Wil.liam Her.bert but he always went by Herbert (everyone is his family went by middle names but no idea why) and my grandmother was Oli.ve Eri.ca but she hated Olive and went by Erica 100% of the time. Would it be weird the name my child William or Olive/Olivia even if they hated it? I'm not having kids anytime soon by I have always wondered.
Re: Name dream + question
No, I don't think it would be weird. They might have disliked their names, but your kid (named the same thing) might love it. I guess it depends on whether you like the names.
My great-grandfather's name was Wasyl (Russian) and
I really like both William and Olive.
I think it depends. Are your grandparents still alive? If yes, and they both really hated their names, I might not use the names in the FN spot, as it might not seem like a tribute.

FWIW, I don't believe the name August and the month August are related in etymology, so it's not REALLY a month name. I feel the same way about my middle name, which is Mae.
My grandmother is no longer living, but her name was
