Should I be worried ??

Hello my name is Ashley, I'm a first time mom so this is all very new to me. I'll be 11 weeks on Wednesday, and I was just wondering if its normal to not hear the baby's heartbeat at this age? I went for my physical at the obgyn on Monday and she tried to listen for it but couldn't find anything but assured me its ok because it's still early in my pregnancy, but I've seen videos of women being able to hear their heartbeats even earlier than 10 weeks. Should I be worried or not ?

Re: Should I be worried ??

  • Normal.

This pregnancy and the last we had our babies "run and hide" from the Doppler wand until around 16 weeks. If your uterus is tilted or you have more padding around your midsection you can also have difficulties with the Doppler. <br

  • Ok thanks!! Yea I'm a bit heavier around my mid section so that might be why. I go for my first ultrasound on Thursday so hopefully I'll get to see and hear it then :
  • Completely normal.

My midwife wouldn't even attempt to check until I was 12 weeks and even then it wasn't easy to find.

  • I heard the hb at 10w 6d, but my midwife knew that I had a m/c's in the past so he really took his time to find it for me. It took a good 10. Most Dr. won't try the Doppler til after 12w since the lo is still under the pelvic bone at this point. Try not t

  • You are "supposed" to be able to hear it at 9 weeks and beyond. My midwife checked mine at almost 11 weeks. She said that they would order an ultrasound if it was not detected. Is that an option for you just to ease your mind? I certainly would try ver

  • Lurking. I heard babys HB at 9 weeks via a hospital doppler. I purchased my own online and couldn't hear it until 11 weeks. When they are that small it can be tedious, sometimes only a tiny area on your tummy. Dont stress, give it time, and if its botheri

  • There are several reasons why you may not be able to hear it. Some are: the baby hiding or the baby being really active so you cannot 'catch' it. The latter was the case at my last appt. The OB couldn't find it so she sent me for an u/s. The little monkey
