when to stop swaddling?

I am a little confused on when you should stop swaddling? I thought I read something about not swaddling past 8 to 10 weeks, but then I think I just read a post about someone who started swaddling at 3 months... how long did or will you swaddle your little one for ? my guy is 10 weeks old and almost 14 lbs and I've gotten away from the swaddling, but would like to bring it back if he isn't too old or too big? ..tia

Re: when to stop swaddling?

  • I stopped swaddling DS at 3 months bc at that point he spent so much time trying to break out that it was counterproductive.

  • I've always heard that you should stop swaddling when the baby can roll over. We'll swaddle for as long as it works before she can roll. When her arms are out, she wakes herself up pretty quickly.

  • I also heard to stop when they can roll over. DD is 10 weeks and we still swaddle at night. We used to swaddle for naps but just today are experimenting without a nap time swaddle. She's been asleep for 30 minutes at this point without a swaddle so we sha
  • We stop at 5.5-6 months old (or when they roll, which none of them did till after 6 months).

We swaddled DD until 6 months and will probably do the same with DS.  They just sleep so much better!

  • We swaddle DS until 7 or 8 weeks, if that. He does not wake himself up. The past few weeks he has really discovered his hands and feet. He will wiggle ALL over the place at night. Since he is still in our room, I decided to start swaddling him again so th

  • They shouldn't be swaddled once they start rolling over back to tummy from what I've heard. Or if it becomes dangerous with the baby breaking out and wrapping fabric around the face. DD was busting out so I tried leaving her arms out but that didn't work

  • My twins started hating it at just 2w old. So, we stopped then. Now we have them in sleep sacs. For the heck of it we tried again the other day, and the screaming and trying to break out of happened again.

  • We stopped swaddling when LO was about 4 months because he was breaking loose (the other reason to stop is when LO shows signs of rolling over).  One of these usually happens around 3-4 months.  We transitioned to a Halo sleepsack when he was do
