2nd Trimester

NYC at 16 weeks?

Hey y'all, I need some advice on a mini-vacation at 16 weeks. DH and I planned to go to NYC for our 5th Anniversary and maybe have some friends travel up from DC to meet up with us. We go several times a year, so it won't be a whirlwind, see-everything, touristy trip, but we do do a lot of walking when we are there.

We'll go to a couple of shows, spend time in Central Park, maybe hit a few museums that we like, and eat at our favorite restaurants. We'll just be there Friday-Monday. I don't think it will be a problem at all, but DH is concerned, so I thought I'd check to see if I'm off base with my assumptions.

So, how are you feeling/how did you feel around 16 weeks? So far I have had it pretty easy, just fatigue and a little nausea/food aversion. Would you book it?

  • I would for sure! Once my first trimester was over, I got all my energy back and then some for a few weeks. My week 16 was, so far, one of the best weeks to date (I know I still have a lot to go though!). I think you should be fine as long as you don't ha

  • I would book it!  At 16 weeks and currently at 17 weeks 4 days I have never felt better.  I still get tired easily and do have a little food aversion like you mentioned but other than that I can't even tell I'm pregnant unless I look down at my

  • Definitely go! It will be the perfect time for that kind of trip. I would probably get a slightly nicer hotel room so you don't mind going back to rest or calling it an early night if you get worn out. Have fun!

I don't see any reason not to do a trip at 16w. What is your husband worried about?

We did a week away camping at 14w with DD1. I went for a couple hikes; small mountains under 1500ft, and felt fine, although got winded faster. This time, we

  • I think you will be fine.
  • I would totally do it right now.  Just make sure you carry water with you to stay hydrated and take lots of breaks if you need them.
  • I think you'll be fine. Pregnant women trek around the city daily. Maybe you won't quite get to do everything if you end up too tired and need a break, but it would still be a nice getaway.

  • Do it! I went to NYC as a touristy trip for my birthday at 20 weeks! I'm not going to lie, it was a bit tough because I'm carrying twins and we did A LOT of walking but it wasn't unbearable. I think you'll be fine!! Have fun!

  • At 16 weeks I was very tired, and still very sick with MS.

It completely depends on how YOU are feeling.

  • Go and have fun! Everyone's pregnancy is different...I am 17 weeks 3 days and still having vomiting, bad fatigue/nausea/food aversions, but it wouldn't change my mind if my hubby wanted to go on a babymoon or any other trip.   I would make sure
  • I went to Boston with my girl friends when I was around 16 weeks and I felt fine.  I never had any morning sickness though.  Just make sure you take time to sit down, drink water, eat, and take a load off your feet.

  • I had a really easy 1st Tri, and then felt worse from weeks 13-16 (but still not terrible). It really varies from person to person, so just know that hitting 2nd Tri isn't a magical guarantee that you'll feel great. But by 16w, I was getting my energy

  • Didn't you know that all pregnant ladies have to move out of NYC once they get a positive test? I wouldn't chance it.

  • I would for sure book the trip.  There is no reason why you can't move around at 16 weeks.  Plus when you get further along in pregnancy you will be uncomfortable so you should do things like that now.  Have a great time!!
  • At 16 weeks I felt great! I live in NYC and haven't had any problems walking around or enjoying myself. Really the only issue I have is that I have to pee every 10 minutes and the public bathrooms here make me want to cry.
