Sensitive to Dairy?

I started giving DD yogurt this week. The first time was 2 days ago, she loved it and no signs of allergy etc. (Not that I was worried about that, we have no food allergies) Today I gave her some again around 1pm for lunch. She ate it great, enjoyed it and has been playing all afternoon. I noticed she just pooped at 4:15pm so I went to change her diaper and she had a diaper rash where the poop touched her skin. It looks like a sunburn as opposed to a bumpy traditional diaper rash. It was a very painful diaper change for her so we are using water and clothes until it goes away.

Could this be a sensitivity to the yogurt? Or was it given too recently (About 3.5 hours ago) to be in her poop already? Anyone notice this kind of rash with a new food? Thanks

An allergy usually always appears at the second exposure to the food. It also manifests pretty immediately, so the timing is right. I'd avoid dairy til your dc's next check up and mention it to him.

Did you go to the 9 mo checkup yet?

  • Thanks for your reply Sigir! I was pretty shocked to see it because she has had cheese a few times now with no problems. But I let her self feed cheese so she wouldn't get much that way.

We go for our 9 month well baby on April 9, I will bring it

  • I would also limit dairy...just as a heads up your pedi may or may not be well versed in food allergies/sensitivities

I have a v mild milk allergy and have no problem w yogurt. I can't recall what's in the yogurt , maybe the probiotics, but there is something about it that makes it 100 percent tolerable. Cheese does bother me though.

Good luck w your drs v
