Eczema

For those of you that have LOs with eczema, what are you doing to treat it?  We used to do baths a couple times a week because the water would agitate his skin so much but in the past week his skin seems better after the bath so we are doing every other day.  We do short baths in lukewarm water, pat dry, and apply aquaphor to the skin immediately after.  How often are you bathing your LO?

Any product recommendations?  We have prescription strength hydro-cortisone for the really bad patches and have just been using a ton of Aquaphor but want to try other things to see if something is more effective.

He doesn't seem to be too bothered when it flares up but I feel terrible when he gets so dry and red.  Any suggestions or insight is greatly appreciated!

Re: Eczema

  • We are doing exactly what you are doing and that seems to help.  Our doctor recommend Cetaphil or Cerave lotion but Aquaphor seems to be doing the trick right now.

  • We do bath 2 or 3 times a week, and just wipe him down every night. This has helped tremendously! We use aquaphore and when he gets itchy patches we use babyganics eczema cream.

  • The pedi recommended daily baths with immediate moisturizer (aquaphor, etc).

I had read about bleach in the bath water, and he said it would be okay, but we haven't done that yet.

Right now we're putting Rx hydrocort on the flare-ups when

  • Thanks everyone!
  • I'm surprised that other pedis were recommending daily baths!  Our pedi said to bathe less often so I've been bathing B every 3rd day (no soap, just water).

When DS1 had eczema we used otc hydrocort
