Anyone rented a car seat when travelling?

We'll be visiting Atlanta in August. I am shipping the Pack N Play down to my brother rather than taking it on the plane. We have to rent a car because we won't all fit in my brother's car and I was thinking of seeing if when I rent the car, they rent car seats so we don't have to take ours with us.I figured it would be one less thing to drag along.

Anyone ever done this? Or it is better to just take ours along.

  • I took ours with us. I bought a special bag for it and was able to check in as a piece of luggage at no extra charge. I stuffed a whole bunch of items in the bag too; diapers, wipes, etc. I felt more comfortable using a seat I knew was up to safety sta

  • I travelled with my sister's family recently.  I took care of the rental car arrangements and rented a carseat for my niece.  It was basic convertible carseat.  It seemed fine and I think it was only like $13 a day or something?  Have

  • We brought ours. We always curb check our bags so its easy to pop it out and give it to the check in agents. The hundred dollars it saved us was worth dragging it along.
  • I wouldn't rent a carseat. I've heard of and read too many horror stories about getting the wrong seat or the seat  being dirty etc. Plus I just don't trust it unless I know that without a shadow of doubt it's never been in an accident. If I were

  • I've rented a carseat a few times and never had an issue with it being dirty, gotten the wrong seat, or anything else. It was well worth it not to have to drag it to the airport.

    I would definitely do it.

  • We just brought ours along, we checked it with our others bags for free.

  • We rented once and had a bad experience.  Usually we take the car seat and either check it or gate check it.  For us it's just easier to use the seat we have...and cheaper since it usually costs $10-15 a day to rent and you can check a car seat

We've done it both ways.  When we went to South Africa, we bought a special bag and took her infant seat with us.  Mainly because they have very different safety standards and I didn't want to get a carseat there because I wouldn't trust it.&nbs

  • I've done it both ways as well, and we never had an issue with the rental car's carseat.  If for some reason it's dirty or not up to your standards, you can always ask for them to grab another one.

  • We have done both.  If you have a seat for your LO you need to have the carseat or a CARES harness for the flight.  What I liked about renting was not carrying the seat through the airport or worrying about something happening when you check it.
