Working Moms

How often are YOU sick??

I know there are a lot of posts about our LO's being sick and having to deal through daycare and time off work....but what about YOU??

This is DD's first winter in daycare and I have been sick since December!!!   Seriously, I'm sick for like 3 weeks, healthy one week, then sick another 3 weeks.

It's been anything from a general cold, to non-stop coughing and cold, to sinus infection and cough.

I know everyone said that your LO would constantly be sick the first 2 years in daycare....but I didn't realize that I would be too!!!

Honestly, I'm starting to worry that something is wrong with my immune system!  I work from home and hardly go out in public....you'd think that I would be less prone to getting kooties!  Or maybe my lack of leaving the house has not given me the chance to build up immunity.

Either way, this blows!  Hoping everyone else is managing to avoid sickness better than me!

I get sick a lot more often since having DS.  I get really sick a couple of times a year and miss 2 days of work each time.  I will also get the occasional cold where I feel miserable but don't miss work.  I try and take vitamin C in the fa

  • Maybe it's just the bug that's going around this year.  I've heard from several people that they were sick for a couple weeks, then felt better, then got worse - same symptoms with the sinus/cold/cough.  Quite a few have said it lasts 6 weeks

I haven't been sick this winter.  A stuffy nose and a headache here and there, but nothing that's knocked me down.

Last year DH and I had a lovely 12 hour stomach bug together, I thought I was going to die.  I

  • LOL - when  my DS was in his first year of DC I was sick all.the.time and one of my CW's actually commented that I must have a weakened immune system.  The fact of the matter is, though, that you are being exposed to all sorts of viruses via

  • I've been more sick since DD started daycare (in October) than I think I have been cumulatively in all the years of my adult life!  I've been told by other mommy friends that the first 1-2 years of daycare = lots of sickness and after that our immune

  • I've always thought I have a pretty strong constitution, but now that I have G, I almost always "catch" what she brings home from daycare, and as time has gone on (she's almost two and a half) I swear I'm getting sick more each winter.  I've been sic

  • Not as much as my kid. I have a pretty good immune system (apparently). My husband on the other hand (claims) to catch everything my son brings home.

When I was first pregnant with my second I did get sick a lot with my oldest in daycare. I wa

  • Other than my annual two days off to deal with allergies heading toward a sinus infection, I am generally rarely sick enough to take off of work.  I feel like I have a perma-cold for a good chunk of winter, but not bad enough for the most part to be

  • I think the first year DD was in daycare I got sicker than usual, but otherwise, I haven't been sick very much. I maybe miss 3 days a uear for illness for myself and I'm not particularly martyr-ish about working when I'm sick.

  • I'm pretty much never sick.  I got the stomach flu last year in March and that lasted 2 days.  That's the last nasty illness I can remember.

Other than some sniffles here and there I'm seriously never sick.  I also pretty muc

  • That first year DS1 was in daycare I was sick pretty often, but they were just colds.

Gotten much better as the years pass.

  • "Missing work" sick, maybe once per year.

Garden variety colds, etc., since the kids have been around I'd say I get 2-3 per year and they vary in nastiness.

promised myself I'd retire when I turned gold, and yet here I am
  • This past winter was DS's first winter in DC. He's hasn't had anything major but congestion, cough, and minor fevers. He's had about 5 sicknesses since October. Both h and I haven't gotten some degree of sickness from him each time. I guess out bodies are
  • I was sick 3 times this winter, which is a lot for me. As hard as it is being so busy, I took the day off work and still had my daughter go to her caregiver, and I literally just slept all day. That helped a ton and made me get better so much faster th

  • Not often. I was sick a lot last yr but it turns out I developed allergies. Most of my illnesses last 24 hr or less and I can still function.

  • DH is sick pretty much constantly with some cough/sneeze/runny nose he claims he got from DS. I've had a cough/runny nose that I got courtesy DS, but this is the first time in recent memory that I can really attribute being sick to DS.

  • Oh my goodness, I cannot believe how much I was sick this year.  This was DD's first winter in daycare (I went back to work last February and we had a very mild spring).  Starting in November I had a cold almost every 4 weeks, I had the stoma

  • Given that I work in a very busy retail pharmacy, I don't get sick that often. I have a cold right now, and a few weeks ago I had a nasty stomach virus that left me out of commission for 4 days. But other than that and a few colds, nothing major. Usually

  • This is my second baby, and I'm still getting sick a lot. I think it goes with the territory. It sucks - and I can't take any days for myself, because I have to save them for DDs' illnesses.
