Teeth brushing tips?

We have an awesome bedtime routine that is really working for us. The one part that is tough is when it's time to brush LOs teeth.

Here's what we do. My husband holds him in his lap, the leans him back onto mine. DS head rests on a pillow on my lap. DH holds DS hands to his chest and I try to brush DS teeth. At this point, DS is shaking his head, red and pissed. I brush them as quickly as I can. His lips are so tight that I can barely get my finger let lone the toothbrush. Once it's done, we give water and he settles down. Sometimes he plays with he toothbrush (supervised). We read a book or two and he falls asleep with no fuss.

Does anyone have any tips to make this less awful? As FTM parents we would love some tips!

  • We do it while she is still in the tub. I sing while I do it as well, but she has never been bothered by brushing, I think we might have just gotten lucky.

  • I just lay LO down and do it. I think he just likes the taste of the infant toothpaste I use. He gets upset when he is teething so I just try to be careful.

  • We got electric rotating bristle brushes for our girls and its made all the difference...LO #2 especially loves holding it against her teeth and "helping" brush. I make sure she gets all the surfaces, while letting her try and hold it.

  • Our bathroom is tiny so I sit on the toilet with him in my lap and we can both see into the mirror.  Then I show him how I want him to pull his bottom lip down out of the way, and I help him a bit with my thumb. He doesn't seem to fight as much th

  • Maybe try a different toothpaste? My son doesn't give me a hard way to go about it but I really think it's because he likes the taste of the toothpaste.

  • I brush DS's while he is still in the tub too. He sees me get the little finger brush out and put the tooth and gum paste on it and he gets all excited about it. He loves for me to brush his teeth, and he gets upset when I stop after a couple of minu

  • I brush her teeth with a facecloth at the beginning of her bath, it's quick and she splashes while I do it.

  •  We Have the baby buddy toothbrush,  so lo  brushes his own tooth,  by chewing on it.    they can still gag themselves so watch out if you get it and let lo use it on their own.
  • We would love to try the tub but he gets a bottle after, so it would be pointless.

We tried the baby buddy but I don't think that's enough. He has back teeth now.

  • We've been lucky so far. Our 9 month old allows us to wipe his teeth with a washcloth after his last bottle of the day, provided he hasn't fallen asleep
