Judging parents.

I've come across some odd people today.

I'm currently at a coffee shop where a little girl, about four, has purple hair. It isn't sprayed. It's permanently dyed that way. I find that very very strange.

Earlier, at the park, there was a couple with a one year old. He clearly had just barely learned to walk. Every time he'd decide he'd rather crawl, because it's still the most efficient method for him, they'd pick him up, say, "No!" and put him back on his feet to walk. Doesn't that seem...harsh? Unnecessary? Mean? I asked how old he was and his birthday was last week, so it's not like walking is a concern yet. Isn't that strange?

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

Re: Judging parents.

  • To each their own, I guess. A few years back, I was sitting in the salon getting my hair done and a mom walks in with her 7 year old and says her daughter asked for highlights for her birthday so she was getting them.

  • I'm totally judging the parents of the kids who were trying to shop down my tree yesterday. Where were they? Why was a child running around the yard with hedge trimmers?

  • I don't know, I started babysitting a 3 month old and a 16 month old this week. The 16 month old gets furious when I hold his hand/hands to help him walk because he would rather crawl. I wish his parents would've spent some time working with him on walkin

  • I could see wanting to encourage your kid to walk once they learn how, especially if they are outside or in public places since there's more germs that can get on their hands.

  • Yeah I wouldn't judge the parents with the walker/crawler. Having a kid crawl around a park is really annoying. Scraped knees, hands and feet, dirty hands they put in their mouths, torn up clothes... DS spent a long time being able to walk but refusing to

  • Sprayed or permanent, no 4 yr old is having any other color hair than their giving hair color. Clip ins are ok for the house but not to school. The closest I'll get us yarn braids but I don't like that either. Maybe for summer.

  • Because I am perpetually changing my hair color I guess that would depend for me.  I dyed my friend's six year old daughter's hair with purple streaks and didn't think twice about it.  We used all natural vegetable based dye.  It washes out
  • i've never had a 4 year old so i don't really have a good concept of their wants and abilities to understand things, but i'd have no problem letting my kid dye their hair when they are old enough to know what it means and ask for it.
