3rd Trimester

Anyone else dealing with a toddler acting out? HELP!

Hey mamas, obviously I know I'm not the only one going through this. Any mom with a toddler has been through the terrible 2's that seem to carry on later or start earlier. In the last month or so, as we've starting slowly talking a bit more about the new baby, my son has become an absolute terror! He turned 2 in January and I've tried every approach I can with him, but it always ends with him throwing himself or some object on the floor simply from my telling him "no". I've tried face to face contact and explaining that he needs to listen to mom and dad, and if he doesn't, that he will have 2 minutes in time out to calm down. He knows what time out is and it seems to make it worse sometimes. A lot of times, I end up sitting on the floor crying, because I feel like I could be doing something differently and I start doubting my abilities to be a good parent. Any kind advice or even words of comfort would be super helpful right now. I just worry how it's going to be when we bring home our daughter in 6 weeks and how I'm going to keep from having a mommy meltdown!

  • Oh yes, this is my house too. My baby turns 2 today. The tantrums whenever he is told no are lovely. I ignore them for the most part. Sometimes he can be redirected but not frequently. Timeouts are in place here too. We enforce them after a warning, tha

  • Yeah, southern California has it's benefits! Do you have any malls with an indoor play area? Or something similar?

  • A blog I follow JUST had a post about using the word "no"

I don't know if that's at all helpful for you.

  • My son is 3.5 and is out of that stage...thankfully! It sounds like your son acts the same way mine did. I would give him a 3 count warning...1...2...3 and then I put him in a timeout for 3 minutes. If he was still upset, I would tell him that when he ca

  • Honestly, when mine does this I don't do much about it. I pick him up or get down on his level and hold him so we can literally see eye-to-eye and I tell him that I understand he's frustrated (or angry or sad or whatever) but it's not nice to (throw toys,

  • It helps our son when we stay with him through the tantrum and listen to him.  It sounds counter-intuitive based on what most people say, but we follow a parenting model called Hand in Hand Parenting.  Their philosophy is that off track behav

  • My daughter has been insane the past 2 weeks. We can't mention the new baby, she freaks out. Now she's on a hunger strike. I hate the terrible 2s, I want my baby back!
