Babies: 6 - 9 Months

baby's first cold

DD went to daycare for two weeks before getting sick. This is her first time being sick and it is something awful! She's so congested she can't suck her thumb, which she uses to soothe herself and go to sleep. She needs to be held and bounced all day long even for naps. And is getting at least 3 hours less of sleep than normal. I feel like I have a newborn again, she is so cranky and up all night. It is day 5 and the congestion is easing slightly but now she has a cough.

I have this irrational thought that there is no end to this. Or that once she gets better it is a matter of days before she gets sick from daycare again.

What was your lo's first illness like?

  • My LO has had colds off and on since last fall.  It is frustrating, especially those first few days, but it doesn't last forever.  My LO's colds usually last about a week and half.
