Idiot Pediatrician....

I wanted to pass along our experience so it could possibly benefit someone else. While we were in the hospital, I had a LC visit me twice a day for three days since the plan was to BF. We were having trouble from day one so I took all the help I could get. The head LC noticed that my son possibly had a tight frenulum and that we needed to bring it to our pedi's attention. I did this on our first visit. The pedi looked in his mouth and told me not to worry about it, it had nothing to do with our BF issues. At that point, we had no choice but to EFF because he lost so much weight and we could only blame a really low supply. However, over the next couple of appts were not right. Something was off to me. DS had a diaper rash that was really angry and pedi wasn't going to look at it until I pushed. He had a yeast infection. This was the last straw. I wanted a second opinion on his tongue so my SIL recommended her kids pedi and I made an appt. This pedi said that there are specialists for this and we would need a referral. In his opinion, it was borderline. I asked for the referral and saw the specialist. Apparantly, his case would be classified as a moderatesevere case and would definitely impact attempts at BF. We had it taken care of same day in the office but I'm so crushed. I know I have problems with supply due to my infertility and PCOS but his frenulum was the last bit of hope before we gave up completly. So I gave up because an idiot dr told me not to worry about something he didn't specialize in.

Long story short if you believe something is wrong, and the dr won't give you a second, get a second opinion! Also, if your pedi doesn't remember your LO's name and asks if your a new patient every visit after seeing him for three weeks straight, you need a new pedi.

  • I'm so sorry that your ex-pedi was an idiot, but it's wonderful that you were persistent when you thought something was wrong. I had a similar experience with DD1, and it took my MW by chance being in the room when she projectile vomited to believe me
