I hate thermometers, suggestions??

I feel like we have every thermometer in the world, and I hate them all!

My sister, who is a doctor, recommended a pricey temporal thermometer that we have been using since DD was an infant.  Honestly, I don't trust it.  I feel like it always reads really low and we are using it correctly.

We have a rectal thermometer that we will use when we are really concerned about a fever....we know this is the most accurate.

But, we are looking for something "easier" than the rectal but more accurate than the temporal.

Our pedi always uses an ear thermometer so that's what we are thinking of getting...but there are so many different ones.

Reading previous posts, the Braun ear one seems to be pretty good....but before we spend on yet another one, I would greatly appreciate opinions.

  • We just bought the pricey ear kind, for the same hatred reasons and it seems right on with rectal temps, so I'm calling it my favorite so far.

  • I'm a peds nurse, and we use the temporal artery as more of a tool to determine if there is a fever or not.  If it's over 100 degrees or so, I use a rectal to be more accurate.  With my own daughter, I figure she either has a fever, or
  • We have three.  We have a rectal thermometer which I use when I want an accurate reading but I hate using it.  We have the no contact Thermofocus thermometer.  I hate it because I can never seem to get an accurate reading; however, DH seems

  • We use an infrared thermometer.  Awesome!

Are you using the appropriate corrected for temporal readings rather than rectal or oral?  They all have their own equivalent, and they all read an internal temperature of 98.6 a little differen

  • i bought the vicks under-ear thermometer and it has been a lifesaver since my older child balks at the oral and i hate using a rectal on her.  it's color coded so the display turns yellow if the temp is slightly up and red if fever is present. green
