Seeking car seat advice

I need to buy a new car seat for my 2 1/2 year old.  He's big (39" and 35 lbs).  He's currently RFing in a Britax Boulevard (which I like and would consider purchasing again).  I'm torn because I'd like to keep him RFing for a bit longer but I'm not sure it makes sense to buy another convertible car seat versus a booster (the kind with 5-point harness) because it seems like the booster-type seat will fit him for a lot longer than a convertible car seat will.  Any advice would be appreciated.

As much as I'd like to keep my child RFing as long as possible, I'm not sure if buying a bigger seat will give you that much more time sine your child is already 35 pounds (I think most RFing seats are 40-45lbs max?).  If there is as bigger seat out

Thanks! I probably should have explained it better that I have to get a new seat now, and whatever seat I get I'd like him to be able to use for a while (regardless of if it's RF or FF).  It's hard to imagine him being in the Britax Boulevard when he

I would probably get another convertible with a taller shell. Chicco nextfit, Diono radian or graco mysize, size4me, head wise are good convertibles with tall shells. These should last you quite a few years forward and rearfacing.

We have the Diono Radian RXT, it's great. The limits are:
5 to 45 lbs. rear facing with at least 1.5 inches of carseat above the childs head or total height of 44 inches

20 to 80 lbs. forward facing, 5 point harness, with a child less
