So my 6 week old DS is now big enough to fit into the OS pocket diapers I've made for him using the Rocketbottoms pattern (similar to Rumparooz - double gussetted). I've used microfleece as an inner in some of the diapers, and minky in others. Well, we tried them out for the first time overnight yesterday, and to my disappointment 2 of the 3 diapers leaked. I'm wondering why. The two thoughts I have are that a) the fleece possibly could have repelled? Weird, b/c the diapers are brand-new. I prepped all the fabrics by washing in regular Tide and drying prior to sewing. The other thing might be, and sorry for being graphic, is that b) DS's pee stream is currently not forceful enough for the pee to get through the fleece to the absorbent layer? Maybe it's dribbling over the fleece and out the leg hole? He's still pretty little (under 8 pounds). The diapers were effective in holding his poop in, so I know the gussets are effective against that . . . thanks in advance for any thoughts here!
Re: Pocket problems... help diagnose this!
Some questions:
1.) Sorry to ask, but you didn't say, did you use fabric softener in the wash or dryer?
2.) How soon after you put them on are they leaking? Like right away when LO pees or a while later?
3.) Are the insert
I'm so NOT a CD expert, but the couple questions that come to my mind are
1 - was the insert wet/soaked? If so, it isn't that the pee is being repelled by the microfleece
2 - where was the leaking? Any chance it was wicking through your sti

If they were repelling, I think you could figure that out by dripping water on a clean diaper and see if it rolls off or soaks in.
Maybe the diaper is just too big for your 6 week old? Lots of one size diapers will leak if they just don't fit you
