Natural Birth

In L&D still hoping to go natural but it's going to be harder than I thought

What I was really really hoping wouldn't happen happened.  My water broke before contractions began and I'm GBS positive.  I went in to the hospital about 2 hours after my water broke to get antibiotics and we decided to start Cervadil because my cervix wasn't very thin.  I was also barely a centimeter dilated.  HOPEFULLY things will start on their own before the morning because then the Pitocin talk will start.  :(

So much for laboring at home for as long as possible!  Right now I'm stuck in the bed and I'm just a little crampy.  When the Cervadil comes out I'm going to insist on a shower and ask to walk for an hour before accepting any further interventions.  Any other tips or suggestions are very welcome.  Also, wish me luck!

  • Also a lurker here. I had a similar experience a few years ago with my first. I resisted pitocin for as long as possible, and all it did for me was make make my labor longer. By the time it was time to push, I was exhausted. If you've had the cervidil

  • GL! I hope that things get going soon.  In addition to walking could you also try nipple stimulation?  I have heard that can sometimes help get things going.  Many women have delivered med free even when induced with pitocin.  Stay pos

2 things to think about after the cervidil you can try a foley bulb next. And is you do have to do pitocin, ask for the lowest possible dose. Once your contraction are regular, you can ask for a trial of s

  • No advice here, but wanted to wish you good luck!
  • I think you have a good plan with the shower and walk. Maybe try some squats in the shower to help stretch your pelvis and encourage baby to lower and put pressure on the cervix.

Good luck and I hope things go smoothly!

  • Good luck!  I hope it goes well for you!
  • I was in the same boat except that I was only 35 weeks so I hadn't taken the GBS test yet so they treated me as positive. After 24 hours of no contractions after my water broke, they gave me Cytotec. About 12 hours later they gave me Pit and about 6 hours

  • Just the opinion of a FTM -- but I've attended a few friends' births, and if I was at a hospital that has a timetable after the bag of waters breaks I would be more open to pitocin induction. Doctors can get really irritable after your water has been b
