STMs - trash can in nursery?

I know this is the most mundane question ever, but can anyone tell me what size garbage can we'll need in the baby's room? We are not getting a diaper genie because I don't want to have to wrestle with the bags, and I heard that a garbage can works just as well if you commit to bringing out your garbage once a day.

I wonder if we can get a day's worth of diapers into a little (2.6-gallon) garbage can, especially in the beginning when you're changing the kid 12 times a day. But we are strapped for space, and I'd rather avoid getting the next size up (13-gallon capacity), so that we don't have a huge garbage can in what will already be a very cramped room. Thanks.

  • Just curious what you mean with "wrestle with the bags?" I already assembled the diaper genie and didn't find it difficult at all - and not sure why it would be?

  • I never had one in DD's room because I felt it was just as easy to walk it outside where it wouldn't stink up at all (did it for 2 years so far with no issues). I'm very sensitive to smell though. I would imagine a smaller can would do just fine...especia

  • Small can should be fine if you're emptying it everyday. But we've had 2 diaper genies over the last 8+ years and always been very happy with it. Also, to save money on the refills, we only use it for poopy diapers. And keep a small reg trash can beside i

  • Thanks, everyone, for all the good suggestions. And HoolahZinger, if we lived in Hawaii like you (I'm insanely jealous, by the way... we took a vacation to Kauai and Maui last year, and I've spent the last 11 months trying to figure out how and when to

  • A small can like you would use in your bathroom would be fine.  I also love the idea of tying the grocery bag to the changing table.  So stealing this idea :-)
  • A small trash can would be fine. You don't want to accumulate too much dirty diapers in there because it'll stink up the room. I didn't ask for a diaper genie with my 1st and I didn't intend on getting one for this LO.

I never had a diaper genie or a trash can in my son's room.  I got the stinky ones out of the house or in a grocery bag and put the wet ones in the regular trash.  I just hate the way the diaper genie smells since my sisters had one.  I jus

  • We've always just used a small trash can and emptied it daily. For poopy diapers I buy the little disposal bags from the dollar tree. Never had an issue with stink and much less expensive than a genie and refills.
  • I don't know what size ours is, just a small one.  I just bag everything and empty the pee diapers when it's full and poop diapers immediately get bagged and tossed in the garage.

DD usually poops downstairs (not in her room ups
