Fried Oysters?

I can't believe I'm asking a question about food because these questions usually drive me crazy, but this is one that I'm honestly not sure about.  I have been craving fried oysters like you wouldn't believe, but I am seeing very mixed reviews on google and in other places about whether or not it is safe.  On my handout from my OB the only thing it says is to avoid raw shellfish.  I'm so sorry for asking a dumb question, but before I indulge I thought I'd ask for your opinions.  What are your thoughts on eating fried oysters during pregnancy?  Safe or no?  Thanks ladies :)

Re: Fried Oysters?

  • I'm no doctor, but I would think if they are fried that would kill any potentially harmful bacteria.

  • It isn't the bacteria that you need to worry about when it comes to seafood as much as the Mercury level. Oysters are in the low level grouping and according to the American Pregnancy Association website 2, 6 oz servings per week is safe. Enjoy!!!!

  • Yep yep! Asked this question a long time ago and was glad to hear they're ok to eat! :]

  • I wondered the same about calamari. But I read more positive reviews than negative ones.
