I need some advice on my DS

I am mostly a lurker here. I have a daughter that is just over 3 and a son who will be 2 next week.

DS has been pretty clingly lately, well a lot more than normal. He will be fine one minute and the next he is in tears needign to be picked up/held. He has been swatting at his ears and I thought maybe it could be an infection but he tends to do it when hes upset as well. Any thoughts?

Is he maybe getting his 2 year molars? That could also explain the ear thing.

My pediatrician says that if swatting at ears is the only symptom, it's almost never an ear infection.  Does he have a fever?  Has he had a cold recently?
