s/o handicapped bathroom stall usage

In my 43 years on this earth and the many, many, many bathrooms I've used and lines I've had to wait in - I have never ever seen someone who visibly needs to use the large stall actually using it or in line.

This is why I don't get why these large stalls are "sacred" and why there are some people out there who take issue w/ non-handicapped people using it.

How readily have you all seen these stalls being used actually as intended?  (Not counting the kid/ changing table aspect)

Re: s/o handicapped bathroom stall usage

  • I used to help my grandma shop and she visibly needed those stalls, but other than that, never.

  • Pre-child, I was pretty involved in the special needs community, so I saw and used the handicap stall frequently.

I'll use the stall if it's the only one open or if I have DS with me, but I don't think it's a problem for disabled people to wait.

  • I have. I try to avoid using bit unless that's where the change table is, or its a desperate situation. Handicapped parking I would never use though. I see them used quite frequently around here.

Honestly, only on line is this a debate. I'm pretty sure IRL everyone uses them and people who have need of them do

  • The only place I have even noticed someone with a walker or wheelchair using the handicap stall is at the casino.

  • I've seen them used. Typically, though, it's an elderly woman who uses it to have the bars to hold onto.

  • I was in a wheelchair for several weeks last year due to a broken leg. It never bothered me having to wait if the accessible stall was being used by someone who didn't seem to need it. Even though I couldn't walk, my bladder worked just fine!
