Help with eczema

my lo's skin has been getting dryer and dryer the last few months. i know she has some food allergies and we are doing some elimination diet (dairy, peanuts, and strawberries) to see if we can get her i and the issues under control (not just the skin problem)

this week she has had a pretty bad eczema flare up (this isnt officially diagnosed by her pedi yet, but my cousins have extremely bad eczema so i know what it looks like)

i finally decided to switch her body products (was using johnsons) and we are trying aveeno for the first time. i got the baby gentle calming cleanser and the baby eczema cream. tonight when i put the cream on, she was pinching at her skin and whining, like it burned. is that normal? she has a lot of really rough patches on her back and legs so im assuming its just really dry.

can anyone tell me some good products to try, should i get an ointment instead? i was going to try to order something online tonight. should i just continue the aveeno cream for a couple days and see if it helps? what about the burning? also, do you still bathe every night if your lo has the same problem? any tips?

also, if your lo has eczema triggered by food allergies, how often does it usually take for a flare up?

we are seeing her pedi in a couple weeks because right now we are out of town. thanks in advance!

  • All three of my kids have eczema to some degree. I use Aquaphor on them. It works really well, even when their skin is really dry and red. Put it on immediately after bath when your LO's skin is still slightly damp. My oldest had a pretty nasty flare up o

Both of my kids have eczema, one has food allergies and one doesn't. We use hydrocortisone and either Aquaphor or Cetaphil Eczema lotion on top of that.

  • We used the Aveeno eczema bath wash and lotion for DS when he was younger, and it helped.  I don't remember him ever pinching or whining his skin, though I would assume that her skin is probably so dry that the lotion does hurt.  I know that tha

  • I have an 18yo DD and a 1yo DD, both with eczema issues.  DD1 has used Aquaphor/Eucerin her whole life and it's been great.  So when DD2 developed it we tried it on her and it made hers worse.  The only one that works for DD2 is Aveeno ecze

Hydrocortisone on the patches, then slather on eucerin cream or aquaphor.  I like the eucerin better though.  Right out of the bath, after patting dry is best.

Exederm for Baby. They make a body wash, shampoo, lotion, cream. You can get it at some Babies R Us stores and also online at drugstore.com, amazon, etc. Good luck!

  • Aveeno is made by Johnson's, and I think it has the same ingredients...anyway, we use Aquaphor for our LO, and it helps a lot.  We put it on the area he has trouble with twice a day.

My 3 month old daughter has eczema really bad and we tried Mustella stelatopia and it has worked wonders for her.  It's kind of expensive but it is worth it for us.  We use the lotion, milky bath and cream cleanser.  We also use aquaphor so

  • We've tried Auquaphor, Vanicream, Babyganics and Neosporin just came out with an eczama formula moisturizer.  Neosporin has by far been the favorite but it's also the most expesive.  Second choice would be Babyganics.  We also only bathe on

  • The newest rec is tepid water only baths daily. Then lots of heavy cream to lock in moisture. It's an outdated concept that bathing too often dries out their skin only true if you're using soap daily. Frequent baths made my LOs severe eczema WAY better! <

  • Bathe every day but don't use soap every day. Maybe every other day. After the bath apply pure lanolin to skin. It works well on my LO.
  • I totally agree with you, coconut oil is the way to go!  I use CapriClear on my skin, it's made from CO and it's great!!!!!!
  • My son has sensitive skin and eczema. Johnson and Johnson was like water on his eczema do my ped suggested aquaphor. It is gentle on his sensitive skin and now I use it twice a day especially right after I get him out of a bath. He still scratches at time
