Freak Out! Cleaning with Bleach

So this morning I was cleaning and accidentally inhaled bleach while cleaning the bathroom. My chest felt like a really bad lung infection where I couldn't inhale very deeply. Luckily its much better now.

I called my OB and being that I'm better and not having any other symptoms she's not too concerned, but wants me to followup with my general Dr. tomorrow.

In all my times of cleaning this has never happened to me and now I'm freaking out! Has this happened to anyone else before?

  • Oh that does sound scary :( Glad you are feeling better. You inhaled the fumes from the bleach?

I would say i've definitely inhaled cleaner fumes unintentionally... its a bit unavoidable in such a small room. I don't clean with straight ble

  • Oh wow, I'm glad you're feeling better too. Case you want to give it a try, I've found that vinegar works wonders in my bathroom and kitchen. The smell can take a bit getting used to but it's not harsh and dangerous like bleach.
  • I'm so glad I read this post.... This EXACT thing happened to me cleaning last week. My lungs hurt for 2 days! I must be extra sensitive to the chemicals right now. It was insane though!
  • I switched to using natural cleaners while pg with DS and have never looked back. You don't have to worry about chemical reactions or fumes, and they work much better in my opinion. Hope your lungs feel better soon!

  • I use alot of vinegar and baking soda to clean.  It really helps take the strees out of cleaning when you have a little one around.  M can be right by my side and playing with the bottles if she wants.
