Is this a dumb idea?

WE have a potluck type banquet we are going to with the kids tonight. I am signed up to bring a side dish. I don't have a lot in the house and don't feel like going to the grocery store so I was thinking of saut?ing broccoli with olive oil, and garlic and bring it in a crock pot to stay warm. First is that dumb to bring? I know a lot of people bring cheesey, sour cream filled things and I would like something a little lower calorie and 2ndly will it stay ok in a crock pot? Would you bring it in something else?

I think it's fine, be careful covering it without a little vent it can turn that army drab green.

  • I think it's a great side to bring - but maybe put it in a foil pan instead?  I think it would get a little mushy staying warm in the crockpot where steam is going to vent around it.

  • I think it sounds like a great idea. I know I would love to see a healthier alternative at a potluck.  I agree that the crock pot might turn it mushy after a while.

  • I would be excited if I went to a potluck and this was an option. I agree about maybe nixing the crockpot, though.

I wouldn't bring it. I would be afraid it would overcook. I would think of something else.

  • It will be parents and kids but I am unsure of the # more than 20 I think and I don't know what others are bringing.
  • You could do a cheese sauce for the broccoli or do a broccoli bake with bread crumbs and parm on top. That way it's less likely to over cook and get droopy looking.

    Sorry, not healthy though!

  • Staying with the broccoli theme how about a broccoli salad instead?

Here's the recipe for one my mom does all the time, you could easily cut the bacon in 1/2 (I do) and the dressing by 1/3rd
