XP: Fedding/BLW question...help please!

DH and I decided (after a long and arduous conversation) to do a modified version of BLW where we also introduce spoon fedding purees, but it seems as though Kate hates being spoon fed. I've tried it with: oatmeal, oatmeal with apple puree in it, avocado w/ formula, sweet potato puree and pear puree. She grabs at the spoon as I try to put it in her mouth...and I let her because she has decent control, but as soon as she realizes there is food on it she won't grab for it anymore and she tries to turn around in her chair to get away from being fed....

Enter BLW. I've tried avocado, slightly baked apples, pears and bananas. She seems more interested in these solid foods, however, after being handled for about 10 seconds they start to get slippery. This leads to her not being able to pick them up easily....screaming at said food.....smashing everywhere with hands in a frantic attempt to at least pick it up....crying.

Is anyone else struggling so much with both purees and BLW? I'm so discouraged that I'm at the point where I dread the thought of feeding her.

  • DD really enjoys feeding herself more than us feeding her....I would try roasting some vegatables in cubes and then dice then a bit smaller for her. Try sweet potatoes, carrots, butternut squash. We also started giving DD small pieces of cooked green b

We started out with BLW and just do purses occasionally if I run out of time to make something. Here are a few things I've done to combat the slippery issue. With banana, I wash the outside then cut off the bottom third or so and partially peel it, so

  • Try to leave the skin on some, or even put it in a mesh feeder.

Ds can't hold peaches to save his life, so I put it in a mesh feeder. Same thing with mango.

You could roll the fruit in ground oats.

  • Those are just slippery foods.  My 9 month old how is a very competent eater now has trouble with avocados, bananas and anything without a peel.  Some of the easy foods for him as first - roasted sweet potato fries, carrots, or zuchini, overcook

I find feeding very frustrating, so I'm not sticking with any one method for now as each meal a different thing works.  I'm mixing purees, finger foods, and hand feeding her table food.

I usually start off her meal with purees which she gets
