Secondary IF

Hi and WWYD: IUI or IVF?

Hi ladies, I have not been on as much lately. I am in the process of moving, need to find a new RE. We just found a house so things can begin to settle down. I am planning on doing IVF but DH's new job has ZERO IF coverage and I dont have a job yet. I am wondering if I should try IUI again.
When I did IUI the first time I had a 26mm and a 17mm follie. Second time I missed the u/s. Third time my follie was 29. Also when I triggered with HSG I think I ovulated a few hours later but IUI was 24 hours later. I guess my point is I don't know if my IUI chances were as good and maybe a different protocol would be better. DH has fabulous sperm and we have gotten PG three times on our own. My other issue is my age, I will be 39 in May. I dont want to waste time but I also wonder if i should try a cheaper route first.
I will follow RE advice but wanted to get others thoughts.

Re: Hi and WWYD: IUI or IVF?

  • We were advised from our dr to go with IVF from the start but like you, our insurance offered 0 coverage for IVF but 6 chances for IUI. We talked to the dr and he said to go for it if we wanted to attempt! Our chances were lower than they would be with IV

  • It's totally what you're comfortable with. I personally wouldn't try more than 2 more IUIs before Ivf. My RE told me after 4 failed IUIs that my success rates decline dramatically. Even though it's costlier, your success rate would improve with IVF. Just
  • I would see if they could do an IUI cycle on injectables. I agree with PP that it is good to see how you respond to the meds. My first injectable cycle I stimmed on the longer side and they had to keep upping my meds. The next 2 cycles were clock

    TTC#1: 14 months on our own (did HSG, b/w, SA);

    Cycle #14: IVF#2 lupron/follistim/menopur ER 1-22, 19 eggs, 14 fertilized, 5dt on 1-27, BFP!! beta 1: 63, beta 2: 119; EDD 10-15-13; 1 frozen embie

  • I think it sounds like your IUI's before were fine and if I were you I would go ahead and do IVF. Obviously, wait and see what your new RE suggests, but the higher success rates of IVF coupled with 3 failed IUI's I would go ahead with IVF, insurance or no

  • If I were in your shoes, I would want to try IUI again. These are my thoughts: you've gotten pregnant three times on your own and I would feel that, with adjusted medication, IUI may be all you need. Having no insurance coverage would
