LO woke up Friday with a fever and a cough. He was acting fine, so I just gave him some ibuprofen. I wasn't going to call the doctor, but it was Friday and he had just gotten over an ear infection and a virus. They got us in at 1. By then he was having trouble breathing, but not too bad. DS1 uses albuterol when he gets a cold, so I figured that was the case. No big deal. He'll get it and go home. I was so wrong. First round did nothing. They gave a steriod and a second round. It helped a little, but not enough. They admitted him to hospital. Luckily once the steroid really kicked in he had an easier time breathing. He still had the challenge of going 4 hours without treatment before we could leave. He finally made it Saturday afternoon!
It was really scary to see how fast lo had trouble. He would go from fine to having trouble very quickly. At one point he only made it 2.5 hours. I give DS1 treatments pretty often in the winter. I can always see it coming. I usually don't even take him in anymore. With DS2 I only made an appointment because I wanted his ear checked and make sure his ear infection hadn't come back. I'm so glad he went in. We go back to the pediatrician next week. Looks like we will be discussing asthma.
Re: A first we could have done without...
I'm so sorry this happened, I hope he gets better in no time!
Question though: does your LO still have excema? My pedi told me that (b/c we still have it) babies with excema past about 6 months, and that continue to have it, have been shown
