Babies: 3 - 6 Months

does this seem "right" (food question)

lo will be 6 mo soon.   we have been on solids for a while.  we went through the veggies and just started fruit.

this is her eating schedule

8- bottle, rice/fruit mixed or separate

12- bottle, veggie

4- bottle

6- rice, veggie

8 bottle

i normally give half the container of the solid, but i think she is still hungry. she has been making a fish face, which i was told is her rubbing her gum due to teething.  but i think it maybe a cue of "feeed me".   i wait a half hour or so after the bottle to give her the solids.

tonight at 6 i  gave her the entire veggie container, plus rice.  she ate it all up!  she gets another bottle later.

. is this too much food or fine?  when do i add another serving of fruit? . dr hasnt given much direction. at last appt she was in the 50% for her weight, but 75 for height.

Re: does this seem "right" (food question)

  • Food should be supplementary at this age. It should always be bottle first, then solids about 1 hour later. If she eats it all and is still hungry you should offer a bottle. Their main source of food until 1 year should be BM or formula. Solids are more f

  • I wouldn't worry so much about how much food you are giving her. As long as she is getting 24 oz of formula/BM and she's not over eating (i.e. vomiting or spitting up a lot) I think you're fine.

  • She gets 28 oz of formula daily plus solids
  • At 6 months a baby should be eating 2x a day (or even just once) solids, have at least 5 feedings of bm or ff and maybe even feed one or two times at night. And I believe the oz should be between 24-32oz a day.
