Mattress for the bassinet?

My fianc?s parents got us this beautiful bassinet as a Christmas gift, and I love it. (Safelite Premier Play Yard) It is big but not too big and has an attached storage until and changing table with a mobile and a nightlight with sounds. It is sturdy and can transform into a playpen when our son is too big to sleep in it. We put it all together that day. The sleep surface is just hard. Its like sleeping on the floor. His parents said they picked out a mattress for it but would a mattress fit? I would rather have a mattress so its more supportive and less hard but I don't know how that would work. Anyone have a similar experience and or have the same type of bassinet?

  • It is not recommended to add a mattress to a play yard. It's a safety risk, especially for a very young baby. Safety standards say that a play yard mattress cannot be thicker than one inch.

  • I'm with pp. I wouldn't add a mattress. LO will probably be fine on it as is. If you really want to add something, is there a pad you could use? I am not sure about that for safety, but I imagine it'd be better than a mattress.
  • We have the Contours Classique bassinet and opted to buy an additional mattress pad. It cost us about $20 from buy buy baby. I believe they sell them in different sizes.
