Babies: 9 - 12 Months

off puree completely?? (repost from april 2012)

ok so DD is eating table foods 3 times a day- as well as about 20 ounces of formula a day- she eats everything from eggs, waffles, cheerios, fruit, steamed veggies, veggie burgers etc.....

but she is protesting any puree's now- i wish she would still want them cause its a great variety of veggies and fruits she could be eating.

any of your LO's off puree's completely? is it normal for them to be done with puree's at about a year???

  • I will be interested what others have to say...we just introduced finger foods a couple of weeks ago and my son LOVES feeding himself.  Now when I try to do any purees, he turns his head and not feeling it.  Perhaps a phase, I will keep trying.

  • DD was done with puree's at about 7 months.  she protested the spoon and would rather pick up food herself.  That's when we started giving her food from the dinner table.  She's not a big fan of veggies, but she loves fruit and dairy.

  • DD started refusing pur?es at 9mo.  Our ped said its very common.  They start to prefer solids and feeding themselves.  She still rarely lets me feed her from a spoon.

  • The only pur?e I can get her to eat is out of the pouches. She loves straw cups and loves to suck the pur?e from the pouch as well. My DD also likes smoothies, so I throw a few veggies in there. She will swat the spoon away with everything else.
  • DD just started rejecting purees this week - even the chunky ones. She wants to feed herself so I am giving her little chunks of veggies.

  • We never did purees, just went straight to finger food, so I hope it's ok. Why can't you feed the same veggies that are in puree form in whole form / finger food form instead?
  • We stopped pur?es at 8 months. Ds didnt refuse, we just thought he was ready for all table food.

  • Try feeding your LO straight out of the pouch, instrad of using a spoon.  Another thing that has worked for me is if I give him the spoon with the puree in it, and he feeds himself (with my help).

  • My DD refused purees at 7 months, as soon as she could figure out how to feed herself.
