Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

dropping things from high chair

my son has been dropping his milk and water from his high chair. he doesn't do it all the time, but i usually give him one warning and if he drops it on purpose again then he doesn't get it back for the rest of the meal. he's 15.5 months, and understands a lot. not positive he understands the concept of "don't do that again or you won't get it back" but i'm almost positive he understands when i tell him not to drop his drink.

how do you handle this if your kid does/did something similar?

  • He understands, but he is testing limits. Just take the cup away and give it back later when they ask for it (DD reaches for it when she actually wants to drink). I also hold the bottom of the cup so if she is tempted to drop it, I have a hold on it befor

  • I know DD understand what she is doing when she throws her cop and food. She tends to do that when she is bored with her meal or done eating. I have started taking the cup away and taking her dish away also when she starts throwing food. I tell her that w
  • We take it away and don't give back but they couldn't care less.  What I've started doing is when I hand it to them I make them look at me and say "do not throw this.  When you're done hand put it on your tray and hand it to me".  Then if t

  • DS does this. It usually signals that he's done. He also says "uh-oh" every time he does it, even when it is intentional.

  • This all sounds very familiar! My LO drops is sippy cup, puffs, pieces of food everything from his high chair. Usually it's bc my dogs are around being scavengers, but I try to tell him as soon as he picks it up, to put it on the table when he's done. His

  • Our daughter does this too and it's just to get attention.  It's mostly the cup so when she drops/throws it off the chair I tell her no and that she is not getting it back right now.  Then after a few minutes when she asks for a drink I will giv

  • I think your approach is excellent, we would sometimes have to take DD down from the table instead, it it was more a "just want to throw anything" thing. He will continue to test to see if the rule has changed or it there is a way to skirt the rule. Just
