C-sections

Swelling Post Surgery

After my surgery, my legs, ankles and feet were super swollen and tight. The doctors told me that this was normal because of all the IV fluids I received prior to my c-section. My thighs went down quickly, then only from the calf down to the feet were swollen and tight. It's been two weeks and I can tell my lower legs are going down, but my feet and ankles are still swollen and tight. A couple of the doctors told me that it could take up to 6 weeks.

Anyone have this after their surgery and if so how long did the swelling last?

Re: Swelling Post Surgery

  • With my 1st child, the postc swelling lasted about a week. With my 2nd one it only lasted maybe 3 days. Keep your feet up as much as possible and drink lots of water to help flush those fluids from your body. I know it seems counterintuitive but drinking

  • Mine was awful, and lasted almost 3 weeks after my c-section. My feet and ankles were the worst, and took the longest to deflate.

  • I had it too. As PPs have said, drink LOTS of water and keep your feet up as much as possible. It will get better!
  • My feet were swollen for about 2 weeks. It was miserable! I hope your swelling goes down soon!
  • Thank you ladies! I'm looking forward to them going down. I can't really even wear my shoes. I had to undo my shoestrings in order to wear my sneakers.
  • This happened to me, too. No swelling at all during pregnancy, but after my c-section my feet and calf of my legs puffed up like marshmallows. It concerned me at first, but my perinatologist assured me it was completely normal with the amount of fluids
