Whats expected Manufacture date on new car seat?

I just opened a chicco keyfit 30 carseat and the manufacture date is August 2011. So, it expires aug 2017. I was expecting a manufacture date in 2012. Does this really matter? This will be our second child and were not sure if he will be the last or if we may have one more later. What would you do? The store I bought from is a good 30 minute drive.

Did you get the seat on sale?  If it was on sale they tend to have a older DOM.  I may complain if I paid full price, but if it was on sale, I would be happy.

I bought from buy buy baby and used a 20% off coupon. I technically could exchange for a newer seat....would you?

When I bought this DD3 seat I got it 20% off.  It was about 8 months old.  It is really up to you.  I probably would, since that does seem quite old.

Was it on sale other than your coupon? Usually seats go on sale because they've been sitting for a while.

I would definitely exchange it, if it's possible.  You've lost over 1/4 of the lifespan of the seat before you even opened the box.  Even if you don't use it beyond your second child, you can always pass it on to a family member or friend as lon

it was probably a return from someone else. thats the major problem with big stores. people return things eons later and they box them up and sell them to the next person. i was once online at a store with a woman who had a used graco infant car seat and

I called and spoke with manager who said even though I tossed the box ( which was very beat up and retaped...prob an exchange) they would exchange for another one. The one they set aside was manufactured in dec 2012. I'm going to make the drive tomorrow.
