We weaned around 11-12 months. I kept a sippy of milk available at all times. When she would "ask" to nurse, I would immediately offer the sippy instead. Consistency was really key.

I did the don't offer/don't' refuse method with DD1. It was so easy on both her and me - she never cried, and I never hurt.
If you're in a hurry, you could try offering yogurt instead of a feeding. Or, try spacing them out slowly.
