OB refusing to release records?

I made the switch to a midwifery practice at 26 weeks. I'm currently 31 weeks. My midwives have made repeated requests for my medical records (with my written, signed consent), and my old OB's office STILL has not sent the records over.

What could be the possible reasons for this? It is a small OB practice, and it has been FIVE WEEKS. I cannot fathom a legitimate reason for the delay, and I am getting nervous. When we called, they just said "Oh, sure, just fax over the consent and we'll send the paperwork."

What's going on here??

Re: OB refusing to release records?

  • They're just being lazy, probably because you're no longer a client. Call them. Then call them again. Then call them again.

  • Go into the office and request it. I had to do that when I switched doctors last time and they KNEW I was Pissed lol

It's not a priority for them. Just go in, sign the consent form in person, and don't leave until they copy them

  • sigh. thanks for the replies! i guess we will see tomorrow if they faxed it over (another consent and request was sent this afternoon). i really hate conflict and avoid these sorts of interactions at all cost, but i'll go down there if i have to!

  • I would just go to the OB's office in person and be sweet as pie, but not leave their office until you have your records in hand. If you are ridiculously nice but physically present, they will probably just fold and hand the records over.

  • agree with everyone else - just go in person. sucks, but you'll get the job done.
