Hey doggy mamas, a question for you please!

Up until last weekend I had two chihuahuas that were 11 years old.  During the night on Friday night, one of my pups passed away from what the vet thinks was a stroke, leaving behind her littermate/sister Lilo.

Since she passed, my remaining dog Lilo has been really depressed.  She cries whenever I leave the room and has not been eating any of her food since Saturday.  I've been taking her to bed with me every night so that she doesn't have to feel alone and doing whatever I can to keep her with me at all times (which is somewhat difficult because she's 11, has bad knees & can't go upstairs by herself, and I have two children that still require being carried).

I've been feeding her treats and table scraps (into her bowl with her food) the past few days because I want her to eat something, and she will eat people food when I feed it to her.

Would you start supplementing her dry dog food with something else?  In the past when she's had dental issues we've fed her cooked green beans and rice per the vet when she had trouble eating, so I've been considering doing that instead of feeding her from the table food.

First, I'm really sorry for your loss. Dogs do get depressed when their owners leave or their littermates/friends pass

  • Thank you ladies. It's been a really, really tough week around here. I think it was just so hard on all of us because it was so sudden. She was fine when we put her to bed and the next morning she was gone. I'll definitely check with the vet but I'm going

  • I am so sorry for all of y'all's loss. I don't really have any advice. O was sick and we had to have him put down but B came to us a year after he did and they were clearly not as close as your puppies. She is still depressed and it helps to play with her
