vomiting in the night without waking up

Hi, ladies.  I am a lurker on this board, but need your help.  DS, who is 21 mos. old has vomited twice in the middle of the night over the past four nights.  He never wakes up or cries.  We have a video monitor and keep the sound turned up.  I also have a 3 mos. old and sleep very ligthly, as does my husband.  We haven't heard him get sick and only discover the vomit once he wakes up and we go in to get him out of his crib.  During the day, he feels fine and is eating normally.  He hasn't eaten anything out of the ordinary either.  I am completely baffled.  He has done this one other time about two months ago.  He has an appt. with his pedi next Thursday and I plan to discuss this with him.  Has anyone else dealt with this or does anyone have any advice?

This has happened to us before.  It's always followed by a bout of diarrhea.. in our case, a stomach flu.  He never really vomits a ton, but the diarrhea is a bear.
