One & Done: Only child

high needs little ones

Do any of you have high needs little ones?  How do you handle it?  I am so tired of hearing people call her spoiled.  She is NOT spoiled.  She is just a demanding, high needs kid and has been since birth.  Today DH brought her to my office to meet me and some coworkers for lunch.  The child proceeded to throw herself and scream like a banshee while my coworkers kids (one of whom is the same age as B) sat and ate their lunch quietly.  I get so tired of having to explain she's not spoiled and she's not a brat, it's just her personality.  How do you handle it?!?!  Because I'm about to lose my mind  Sad

  • She's an amazing kid and at 15 months she really is a well behaved child most of the time.  It's just when she loses it, she really loses it.  We don't tolerate her having fits, but at the same time I can't stop them and they always happen at th

I have similar experiences with my DS. He's easy around us and loses it around others he doesn't know well. A month ago a friend of mine came to the house and of course I had told her DS was an easy going baby lol! He screamed, cried or some combination o
  • I've gone through stages where DS is easygoing and where he is high needs. I found 18 months to 2 years the hardest, to be honest. A lot of it was that he had a speech delay and couldn't relay his needs and wants to me but he WANTED to. Once his speech

  • I don't explain anything unless someone actually makes a comment. I was always horribly embarrassed of his behavior in public and beat myself up a lot. I finally just had to make peace with the fact that he is who he is and I'm doing the best I can.</p
