This was just sent on one of my yahoo groups. 

It's so sad... but it's gives you a remainder to always follow your gut feeling and use the epipen, even if someone says not to.  If you think you need to use it -than use it.  Better be safe than sorry.

The epipen the mom had was expired (the kid didn't live at home any more) and the 911 operator told her not to use it. Bad advice. Really sad story.
