What do you see as some of the benefits of having only one child?
I may not post much on this board because we still are not sure yet about only one child but we see a lot of benefits to only one that we are strongly leaning in that direction. We could put all our energy and attention on DS. We think about future trips such as weeks long moose hunting trips by canoe, it seems so much simpler with one child. More money for travel opportunities and long outdoor adventures. We see having only one child and one dog as a nice simple family. We will have more time in our schedule for any sports or after school activities he may have an interest for.
Re: Let's talk about the benefits of only one
We love to travel, and plan to take as many trips as we can with her. We're taking her to Italy for 2 weeks this summer (I know we're crazy since she'll only be about 17mo old, but it's for my family reunion)!
We also plan to send her to

We love to vacation and take trips, and that is sooo much easier with one kid. Not only money wise, but patience wise
We usually let our daughter choose things she wants to do while we're on vacation (to a certain extent- i.e. do you want to g
We hope to travel and we are comfortable in our 3BR house and can have room for a small office and not have to add another bathroom (we still might). Finances are relevant too in terms of daycare, college, etc. I'm also looking to go back to full
Daycare is outrageous here. Two in daycare would run me about $3K a month, which is more than our mortgage.
We are not in a good school district, so we either need to move or send B to private school. We can afford to send her to private schoo

All of the things that PP posted. In particular, I love having the security of knowing that with one child, we'll always have the option of giving him everything he'll ever need without struggling or having to compromise. My mom really struggled and we
Traveling is easier.

I also like the 2 to 1 ratio.
To be perfectly honest, I like having time to myself. I'm not saying I don't want my son in my life and that he doesn't come first--he does. But if mommy's not happy then nobody is happy. It's just easier to ha

For us, it's a lot of the same reasons pp have mentioned.
1. We LOVE to travel and are still able to do things we did before we had her which is huge for us. Selfish or not, we didn't want to sacrifice everything just to have more k
I like knowing that I will be able to give DD the lifestyle I want her to have. She can grow up in the city and we will be able to pay for her college education. Those are important to us and we would not be able to provide those things in a HCOLA

Ours reasons are very similar to most. Some others are that if DH ever lost his job or needed to take a lower paying job, we would be a lot less stressed with only 1.
Another is that emotionally, we don't think we could give everythi
Since I can't have more kids (and wanted them), I try to look at the bright side and all the advantages of just having one.
*Finances. Definitely.
*2 on 1 ratio, as others have stated. In sports, the two usually succeed over the one. My sis
